Practice and Rehersal

Because of the difficulties of a commuter church and the fact we don't have dedicated bands and a rotation of musicians and singers, we do not rehearse during the week for the coming Sunday services, instead, we meet during the month as one of the many Sunday afternoon sessions. Please refer to the Calendar. These are the details of how rehearsals are organised.

For a morning service 9:30 until 10:20 the full team are running through the songs, in an evening service it is from 5:30 till 6:20. Sunday morning isn't regarded as a "rehearsal".

Practice is personal rehearsal is relational

Musicians rotation

Unlike the traditional "band rehearsal" we are a band made up of multiple musicians that rotate on the instruments, it is difficult to call one big rehearsal and get everyone playing. Therefore, rehearsals are scheduled on the planner with people selected for the rehearsal. We will try and mix up the people as much as possible so everyone gets a chance to play with everyone. In addition, there will be special rehearsals for those who are newer to the groups, and musicians will be chosen to "coach" or demonstrate for those who are less proficient. This will all be indicated on the planner! This rotation only applies to Drummers, Bass players, Guitarists and Keyboard players.

Singers, unplugged musicians and learners.

If you are a singer, an instrumentalist, or a guitarist who would like to play along unplugged beside the guitarists for Chord practice, you are invited to come along to any of the rehearsals. However singers will need to be willing to rotate use of the microphone with your fellow singers. It is your cooperate responsibility to ensure that everyone gets a chance to sing on the stage with foldback. All the other singers can be there to learn the songs and practice singing.

Content of the Rehearsals

In the rehearsals we will be practicing a selection of new songs and experimenting with known songs. Although the music coordinator will coordinate the rehearsal, creative suggestions from musicians are welcome! This is a space to experiment a bit as well as practice playing together and learning songs

Keeping chatter to a minimum

We must be mindful that these Sunday afternoon sessions are time limited, if they end up going on past the alloted time it will eat into some peoples precious Sunday away from home and family and in some cases homework time! The emphasis must be on actually getting down to playing and singing!

Sound desk operator

A sound desk operator will be booked onto the rehearsal too so they can practice getting a good mix. It is essential that the sound person is there at the start of the rehearsal so they can practice setting up and setting a good mix, but after that they can leave whenever they want and the music team can lock the desk up.

PLEASE CHECK THE CALENDAR TO SEE WHEN THESE REHEARSALS ARE SCHEDULED
