Sound Desk operator

The sound desk is the most important instrument in the Music team. This means that the operator is seen as a musician as well, and needs to have skills, sensitivity, and awareness of themselves and others similar to a musician or singer! The influence of the balance of sound is so important to a worship service. So being there at 9.30 is quite important

Awareness

The sound operator primarily needs to be aware of what is happening on the stage and to be able to hear what is good and not good in a mix. Much like learning an instrument, practice makes progress. 

Knowing the desk

It is not essential to know the sound desk inside out when you mix the sound. The basic operation is to operate the faders (up for louder) and the auxiliary controls to adjust the mix that the musicians hears on stage on their foldback. However, if there was one important thing is it to be able to mix! This is what the musical worship leader will trust you to do during the service. 

Recording

We record the sermons at OBC, and stream them live to Facebook. These are essential parts of your job too. To press record on the mini recorder and to be able to set up facebook for streaming and press record at the right time.
