CHILDRENS BAND

Childrens bands (Ages 7 to 11)

We want to prepare children to be involved musically in worship at OBC. Their involvement from a young age will be tailored towards the way we work at OBC, playing from Chord Charts rather than music, and using their ear rather than notes. It will also build confidence on stage and working together. The Children's bands are from ages 7 to 11.

How it works

After the service the children assigned that week will gather in the sanctuary strait after the service for a 15 minute rehearsal with a prepared song. They will have 2 consecutive rehearsals and then they will be placed to play in the service in the 3rd week. They are expected to practice at home so they are prepared for their service.  See below for the button that takes you to the bands resources. Please click on the CALENDAR to see when your child is playing

What happens next? (Ages 11 to Adult)

Once they reach Secondary School they will no longer be in the Children's band but twice a month we will place them in the main Church band to play in the song after the all age talk before they go out to Academy.

See the schedule for this or the Calendar. They will need to turn up to the church at 10am and the parents will be sent out the order of service for that week with the song indicated. Eventually as they improve and get older we will begin to involve them in more. The worship coordinator will gauge their progression and place them accordingly.

Instrumentalists

Those who play solo instruments such as trumpet, violin, flute are invited to join any of the bands once they have been through some Suzuki Ear training sessions. Please refer to the Events or Calendar to find out when these are happening.

Children and teenagers who are involved in the bands must be engaged in private music lessons. It will be too overwhelming for them if they have not been learning the instrument formally. We ask that you take the chords to your teachers to help you with during your weekly lessons.
