Electric Guitar

Playing Electric guitar effectively is very different to playing acoustic. It has a subtly different job, almost like a second keyboard, providing warm sweeping background texture, or gritty rhythmic additions.

It is not a rhythm guitar, although it does play rhythm sometimes. It involves doing things that the extra sustain offers that you can't do as effectively on an acoustic. It involves a lot more sweeping or "diamond" chords and picking. It also includes not playing at all!

A bit like a solo instrumentalist, it requires a good ear to hear so a knowledge of your scales and arpeggios, intervals of notes and what they will sound like, and where they are on the fretboard in any key are some of the important things to focus on in practice. Like a solo instrumentalist, playing along with youtube videos of worship songs would be great practice.
